At Elite Dental of Natick, we offer several cosmetic treatments designed to improve the structure and appearance of your smile. One of our most popular and minimally-invasive treatments is
Invisalign, a name-brand alternative to traditional braces.
Orthodontic appliances like Invisalign can drastically improve the aesthetics of your smile. Straighter, more aesthetically-pleasing teeth are also easier to brush and floss, which leads to better oral health as well! If you have minor
cosmetic or orthodontic issues, Invisalign may be the ideal solution!
What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a patented and revolutionary type of orthodontic treatment that involves clear plastic aligner trays. These trays are made using an impression of your teeth and gums, which is sent from Invisalign headquarters, along with a detailed set of instructions. Each tray in your series is designed to gently move your teeth to a slightly straighter position.
Due to the nature of Invisalign, it is a popular choice among our adult patients. As the name suggests, the clear aligner trays are made from a special type of plastic that is hard to distinguish from your natural teeth. Most people may not even notice you are wearing your trays!
Candidates for Invisalign
Unfortunately, not everyone is a candidate for clear aligner trays. We typically recommend Invisalign for people that have mild to moderate spacing issues, crowding issues, and malocclusions (misaligned bites). More complex issues, such as crossbites, underbites, and severe overbites, generally require more conventional treatment methods like braces.
Dr. Bethany Polnar will be able to determine if you qualify for Invisalign during your consultation appointment. Your consultation may include a comprehensive exam using dental x-rays and other advanced diagnostic tools. Once we conclude that Invisalign is right for you, we can begin your treatment planning.
Invisalign Vs. Braces
Many of our patients opt for Invisalign due to the aligner system’s many benefits. When compared to traditional braces, the benefits include:
• |
Fewer Appointments: Braces need to be tightened and monitored about every four weeks. Invisalign patients need to schedule fewer checkup appointments, usually every six weeks.
|
• |
No Need for Repairs: If you lose or break a tray, you can move onto the next one in your series. A broken wire or bracket usually requires an immediate appointment for repairs.
|
• |
Improved Comfort: Invisalign trays do not irritate your gums or cheeks, unlike the brackets and wires of conventional braces. Trays also move your teeth more gently than braces, which can cause discomfort, especially after a tightening.
|
• |
Improved Convenience: Because the trays are removable, eating, and drinking your favorite foods and beverages is not an issue. Braces can break or trap food debris when eating sticky, hard, or chewy foods. Brushing and flossing during Invisalign treatment is also much easier. Braces put you at a higher risk for tooth decay and gum disease if plaque, bacteria, and food are not properly removed from the brackets, wires, and elastic bands.
|
• |
Discretion: Invisalign trays are much more discreet than metal brackets and wires. Although braces have gotten smaller and less noticeable in recent years, Invisalign is still a better option for people who want to avoid the stigma associated with adult orthodontic treatment! |
